From Spiritual Need to Sacred Craft

Blagowood was founded by Mykhailo Melnychuk, an artist from Ukraine who first picked up carving tools in 2014 — not to start a business, but to answer a personal need for connection with his ancestors and spiritual roots. What began as a private search for meaning soon grew into a sacred craft.

Originally known under the name BlagoVyd ("Blessed Appearance"), the project quickly evolved into Blagowood ("Blessed Wood") — a name that reflects both the material and the purpose. By 2015, the first official Blagowood shop was born.

Rooted in Tradition, Open to All Paths

Inspired by Slavic paganism, Mykhailo began carving wooden idols to support his own ritual practices. Over time, he connected with people from other indigenous and neopagan paths — Norse, Celtic, Greek, Wiccan, and more — who asked him to create sacred figures from their own traditions.

Despite our differences in culture, we recognized the same forces — the same divine energies — present in nature. These connections grew into a silent yet powerful community of like-minded seekers, each honoring their ancestors in their own way.

This is what Blagowood is all about: not mass production, not decoration, but the continuation of a sacred connection between people and the forces that shaped them.

Handmade. Heart-led. Rooted in Oak.

At first, every statue was carved by hand. Over the years, Mykhailo’s wife Olha joined the creative process, contributing her own designs and artistic vision.

Today, Blagowood is a small workshop that combines handcrafting with modern techniques to meet growing demand — but every piece still passes through our hands before it reaches yours. From rough oak to finished idol, each figure is shaped, sanded, and painted with intention.

Creating Through War, Standing With Strength

War has been a part of our country’s life since 2014. Some of our team members have been drafted; others contribute in different ways. Still, Blagowood stands strong after 10 years, committed to our mission. We continue to work, to create, and to send out our statues across the world, thanks to reliable postal services and the strength of our community.

Across the World, Into Sacred Homes

Blagowood statues have found homes on every continent — except Antarctica. Our customers include modern pagans, animists, esoteric seekers, ritual practitioners, and collectors who feel drawn to the sacred presence these figures carry.
