This handcrafted wooden figurine elegantly captures Njord, the revered Vanir god of the sea, seafaring, wind, fishing, and wealth in Norse mythology. Residing in Nóatún ("Ship-town"), Njord is known for his calm and generous nature, particularly as a benefactor to seafarers and fishermen. He is also associated with fertility and prosperity, bringing abundance from the oceans. This meticulously carved wooden piece offers a serene yet powerful presence, making it a compelling addition to a personal collection, a striking decorative accent for a home, or a fitting focal point for those connected to the maritime world and its bounties.
In this depiction, Njord is shown standing majestically in a boat, a direct symbol of his dominion over the seas and his association with voyages. He holds a seagull perched gently on his hand, an attribute that beautifully symbolizes his deep connection to the ocean and its creatures, reflecting his calm command over the avian life of the coast. In front of him, a dynamic sea wave is depicted, teeming with various sea animals and Viking longships (drakkars). This intricate detail represents the vibrant life and activity of the ocean under his influence, from the creatures inhabiting its depths to the human endeavors upon its surface. These combined elements highlight Njord's strength, his harmonious relationship with the natural elements of the sea, and his role in bringing both calm and abundance from the waters.
