Norse goddess Hel. Natural wood figurine. Heathen dietiy

Material: Natural wood
Height: 21 cm (8.3”)
Width: 8 cm (3.1”)
Depth: 4 cm (1.6”)
Finish: Protective lacquer with antique patina
Handmade: Yes, carved by hand in Ukraine
Suitable for: altars, ritual spaces and mythology collections

This wooden figurine is designed with a flat back and features a special loop/hook, allowing it to be easily mounted on a wall.

This handcrafted wooden figurine intricately captures Hel, the enigmatic ruler of the Norse underworld, Helheim. As the daughter of Loki and the giantess Angrboða, Hel holds dominion over the realm where most of the dead, particularly those who did not die heroically in battle, reside. Her unique and often formidable presence in Norse mythology embodies the profound duality of life and death. This meticulously carved wooden piece offers a compelling and powerful presence, making it a significant addition to a personal collection, a striking decorative accent for a home, or a profound focal point for those drawn to the deeper mysteries of Norse myth.

In this depiction, Hel is portrayed in a majestic and domineering pose, emphasizing her unique nature: the left half of her body symbolizes death and decay, while the right half represents life and beauty. This striking duality is central to her identity, highlighting her absolute dominion as the guardian of the afterlife and ruler over Helheim. At her feet, skulls and the frightened faces of fallen warriors vividly illustrate the fearsome and inescapable nature of her domain. Behind her, a Scandinavian pattern incorporates the head of a dog, directly symbolizing Garmr, the fearsome hound that guards the entrance to Helheim. This detail further underscores her authority and the solemn, yet essential, role she plays in the cosmic order

Special Note: As each figurine is handcrafted from natural wood, subtle variations in wood grain and minor details may occur, making your piece truly one-of-a-kind. If this item is not immediately available in stock, please allow up to 7 days for your order to be created and dispatched. Please note that shipping time will be additional to the creation period.

Well worth the wait! The detail is beyond gorgeous, the mark of a master craftsman!

It’s so incredibly beautiful. I looked at reviews and couldn’t stop staring at the photos of it for ages. When it said out for delivery I practically had my nose pressed against the window waiting for the mail to come. 😂 it looks just as detailed and nice as the original photo on the listing. I wish my phone had a better camera so I could really capture just how good it is. I put it up in the spot I made for it on my pagan-goth gallery wall the second I unwrapped it. Love love love love love!! It’s hard to find nice statues for Hel but this one really takes the cake!!
