This handcrafted wooden statue powerfully depicts Morana (also known as Mara), the formidable Slavic Goddess of Winter, Death, and Rebirth. Morana is a crucial figure in Slavic mythology, representing the harshness and transformative power of winter, the inevitable cycle of death, and the promise of renewal. She is a goddess of both destruction and regeneration, vital for the balance of seasons and life.
Morana stands upon a skull, powerfully symbolizing her dominion over death and the earthly realm's cyclical nature. In one hand, she holds a sickle, representing the end of the harvest, the cutting down of life, and the inevitability of transition. A raven, a potent symbol of prophecy, transformation, and the spiritual realms, perches on her other hand. On her head, she wears a crown of dry branches, emphasizing her deep connection to the barren, dormant season. Behind her, large ice crystals and bare winter trees starkly emphasize the cold and desolate nature of her domain, beautifully capturing the essence of Morana's dual role in the cycle of life and death.
