Thoth is the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom, writing, measurement, magic, the moon, and divine knowledge. He was believed to be the inventor of writing and the patron of scribes, scholars, priests, and those who worked with sacred texts.
In Egyptian mythology, Thoth also plays an important role in maintaining cosmic balance and recording truth. He is closely connected with judgment, language, calculation, time, and the hidden structure of the universe. His image is traditionally shown with the head of an ibis or sometimes as a baboon, both sacred animals associated with his cult.
