Baldr

Balder, or Baldr is one of the aces, the god of spring and light, in German and Scandinavian mythology.

 

Balder is similar to the deities of a dying and reviving nature, which you can find in the many other mythologys, who patronize agriculture or vegetation in general.

He is a son of Odin and Frigg, one of two twins. Like  day and night, Balder and Hod are brothers, but they are very different.

Balder is so beautiful and pure in his soul, that even reality shines in his presence He is the brightest among the aces, with his arrival on earth life awakens, and everything becomes more beautiful.

Balder has a wife, named Nanna, and a son - Forseti.

Balder was honored as the pure and merciful god of innocence and light.  

It seemed that from his snow-white forehead and golden curls sunlight poured, pleasing the hearts of the gods and people who loved him equally much.

The famous "death of Balder" is the first story in the eschatological cycle in Old Norse mythology, which is a part of Ragnarok Tale. It reflects and causes the future death of the gods. After this murder Loki, who spoke in the last battle against the aces, first turned out to be their real enemy.

 

Balder will return from Hel and will be resurrected at the end of the last battle.  After the “twilight of the gods" his function will be finally fulfilled and he will again be able to live.
